Presentation Version. King Height 140mm.
The presentation version of the hand decorated trafalgar set. The Battle of Trafalgar was one of the most decisive naval battles ever fought. In the course of a short October afternoon, the Combined Fleet of France and Spain, with 33 battleships, was defeated by a British force of 27 battleships off cape Trafalgar, on the south-west coast of Spain. This set of chess pieces is dedicated to the memory of all those who fought with Nelson, and against him, in a battle where every individual appeared a hero according to Vice Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood. The Battle of Trafalgar chess set has recreated the atmosphere of the great battle.

A set of chess pieces that have been designed and developed under licence from Historic Royal Palaces Enterprises Ltd. Known for housing the Crown Jewels, Ravens, Yeoman Warders, otherwise known as Beefeaters, the Tower today is the most visited historic site in Britain. The White Tower, oldest of all the Towers buildings was originally built as a royal palace and fortress, but also served as a prison, a royal chapel, a record office and a large storehouse for arms, armour and gunpowder. The presentation version comes along with its gift case and board included. Painstakingly hand decorated chess set with authentic characters of 1066, this chess design is exceptional in quality.

Our designers have created a magnificent chess set which epitomises the struggles for domination between Christendom and Islam. This conflict has continued intermittently for over a thousand years, but it is the period between 1095 and 1292 which has captured our imagination because of the exploits of the Crusader knights.

Presentation Version. King Height 113mm.
The presentation set of the Celtic design. Along with a presentation case and board we present the beautifully decorated Celtic chess pieces. The Celtics were inhabitants of Western Europe (Ireland, Wales, Brittany and the Highlands of Scotland). They were subjected to raids by Vikings and Norsemen and our chess set is the story of a battle between the Irish King Brian Boru, and the Viking invaders at Clontarf - Dublin. Though the Celts managed to defeat the Viking invaders, Boru was slain. The chess pieces feature the principal characters involved in the battle and depicts Celtic designs and artefacts of the period. Through the detailed design and decoration, we portray many of the characteristics of the era with authentic and historically correct artefacts shown in splendid detail. The skill and workmanship of the Celtic tribes was demonstrated by their artistic and unique designs, recognised throughout the world and reproduced here.

A187SB PRESENTATION VERSION Battle of Bannockburn Hand Decorated Chess Set
Presentation Version. King Height 120mm.
This presentation version of the Battle of Bannockburn comes with a board and case. Observe the fine detail of the castle (or rook) shown. The bricks of the wall actually get smaller as they reach the top which is authentic for the construction of the time, an amazing aspect of detail which really brings out the quality of the piece. The skillfully hand decorated set of Bannockburn pieces feature many of the historic characters from the famous battle. The Scots side is led by Robert the Bruce, or King Robert l - who was famously heartened by the tenacious spider to persist in his struggle against the English. He is accompanied by his Queen Elizabeth de Burgh who was reunited with King Robert after being captured eight years earlier. The English are represented by Edward ll who reigned from 1284 until 1327 when he was deposed, imprisoned and horrifically killed at the behest of his wife, the Queen of England, Isabella of France. The rook on both sides is the Tower of Old Sterling castle which overlooked the battle from it's site on top of an old volcanic rock.

The city of Canterbury has been a place of Christendom worship for nearly two thousand years. Following a major fire at the original cathedral in 1174, the monks at Canterbury used the revenue from the many pilgrims visiting the shrine and relics of St Thomas to create the first Gothic cathedral in England. The rebuilding and reconstruction continued during the following century and ensured that at the end of the Middle Ages, Canterbury Cathedral was one of the noblest churches in Christendom. Our skilled designers and sculptors have created from the architecture and statuary in and around Canterbury Cathedral a chess set of gracious proportions and great detail.

Hand decorated chess pieces that represent the two opposing armies in the most famous battle fought on English soil. Harold, the English King leads his Saxon forces against the invading William, Duke of Normandy. It altered the course of English history from 1066 onwards. The amazing detail created by our sculptors is richly displayed in this historic chess set. This superb set has been a favourite since its introduction in regular brown and ivory finish. It is Based on the famous Battle of Hastings in which King Harold II of England opposed the invading Norman army led by William Duke of Normandy on October 14th 1066. After the hard fought battle of Stamford Bridge in which he defeated and killed Harold Hardrada King of Norway who had invaded Northumbria, Harold and his Saxon Army marched from York to the south coast of England. At a small village just inland from Hastings, Harold's tired army met the invading forces of William Duke of Normandy.

The fully hand painted version of the Battle of Culloden. This chess design records the Battle of Culloden from 1746, which was the war of finality between the French sponsored Jacobites and the Hanoverian British Government in the 1745 Jacobite Rising. It brought the Jacobite cause to restore the House of Stuart to the throne of the Britain to a decisive defeat, with Bonnie Prince Charlie not to see the throne. This war was the last land battle to be fought on mainland Britain. The chess pieces are remarkable in detail - see the picture showing just the base one of the pieces to see the level of detail. This one is not just hand decorated, but fully hand painted by dedicated artisans.

A174S Richard the Lionheart Hand Decorated Decorative Chess Set

A perfect theme for a chess set. The famous Couer de Lion Richard the Lionheart was known as such even before his accession, because of his miltary reputation. At only 16, Richard had his own command, putting down rebellions in Poitou against his father, Henry II. Richard was a central Christian commander during the Third Crusade, effectively leading the campaign after the departure of Philip Augustus, and scoring considerable victories against his Muslim counterpart, Saladin. This chess set depicts the characters, particularly Richard. The set comes in two versions - this one is the hand decorated set, finished in Gold and Silver striking colouring.

Hand decorated version of this timeless chess design. Based on the characters created by A.A. Milne, beautifully illustrated by E.H. Shepard and skillfully photographed by John Turner, SAC’s designers have recreated the wonderful world of Winnie the Pooh for chess lovers young and old. Translated into almost every known language, Winnie the Pooh and his friends have universal appeal.
In 1966 Walt Disney brought the stories to film and in 1977 the first feature length animated film of Pooh in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, was released. All the main characters from the stories are represented in this set from Winnie the Pooh, Kanga and Owl to Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet.
SAC has represented the King by Winnie the Pooh himself and the queen by Kanga, the sweet caring mother of baby Roo. The owl, supposedly the wisest creature in 100 Acre Wood, is the bishop and Eeyore, the gloomy grey donkey, is the knight. Tigger the bouncy is the Rook and Piglet, Pooh’s best friend, is the pawn.
