A102B PRESENTATION VERSION The Original SAC Isle of Lewis

The presentation version of the Isle of Lewis chess pieces. They are replicas of the originals which were discovered on the Isle of Lewis off the West Coast of Scotland and which are now housed safely and securely in the British Museum of London and in Edinburgh. Many pieces were discovered and this is our interpretation of the Isle of Lewis chess set. This SAC design closely follows the original pieces.

A193 Battle of Trafalgar Chess Set

The Battle of Trafalgar was one of the most decisive naval battles ever fought. In the course of a short October afternoon, the Combined Fleet of France and Spain, with 33 battleships, was defeated by a British force of 27 battleships off cape Trafalgar, on the south-west coast of Spain. This set of chess pieces is dedicated to the memory of all those who fought with Nelson, and against him, in a battle where every individual appeared a hero according to Vice Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood. The Battle of Trafalgar chess set has recreated the atmosphere of the great battle.

This magnificent chess set has been created by the skilful sculptors at SAC who have faithfully reproduced the characters from New Line Cinema's motion picture trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. The first part of the trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring, has inspired this set, the pieces are based upon the principal characters who are played by a cast of internationally renowned actors.

A set of chess pieces that have been designed and developed under licence from Historic Royal Palaces Enterprises Ltd. Known for housing the Crown Jewels, Ravens, Yeoman Warders, otherwise known as Beefeaters, the Tower today is the most visited historic site in Britain. The White Tower, oldest of all the Towers buildings was originally built as a royal palace and fortress, but also served as a prison, a royal chapel, a record office and a large storehouse for arms, armour and gunpowder. Painstakingly crafted chess set with authentic characters of 1066, this chess design is exceptional in quality.

See the incredible detail in the cathedral and bases for the worshipers. An outstanding chess set design. The city of Canterbury has been a place of Christendom worship for nearly two thousand years. Following a major fire at the original cathedral in 1174, the monks at Canterbury used the revenue from the many pilgrims visiting the shrine and relics of St Thomas to create the first Gothic cathedral in England. The rebuilding and reconstruction continued during the following century and ensured that at the end of the Middle Ages, Canterbury Cathedral was one of the noblest churches in Christendom. Our skilled designers and sculptors have created from the architecture and statuary in and around Canterbury Cathedral a chess set of gracious proportions and great detail.

This magnificent set represents the combatants at the famous battle of Waterloo in 1815. The French army led by Bonaparte fights the Duke of Wellington. Board and Presentation Case included. This is the brown and white (a.k.a plain) version of the set - we also have the hand decorated version on the hand decorated section of the site. As you'll see from the pictures, the characters are actually alive, they're actually breathing. And they read newspapers. The sculpter and the photographer has given these typically two dimensional characters their third dimensions, which we applaud heartily. The perfect childrens present, a gift to last a lifetime and to inspire our children with the value of excellence. Based on the characters created by A.A. Milne and beautifully illustrated by E.H. Shepard, SAC’s designers have recreated the wonderful world of Winnie the Pooh for chess lovers young and old. Translated into almost every known language, Winnie the Pooh and his friends have universal appeal.
In 1966 Walt Disney brought the stories to film and in 1977 the first feature length animated film of Pooh in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, was released. All the main characters from the stories are represented in this set from Winnie the Pooh, Kanga and Owl to Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet.
SAC has represented the King by Winnie the Pooh himself and the queen by Kanga, the sweet caring mother of baby Roo. The owl, supposedly the wisest creature in 100 Acre Wood, is the bishop and Eeyore, the gloomy grey donkey, is the knight. Tigger the bouncy is the Rook and Piglet, Pooh’s best friend, is the pawn. This beautiful chess set appeals to all ages and comes complete with an illustrated board and a full set of rules. Oh, and you know the most wonderful thing about Tigger? If you have kids, you know the answer.

A161 Battle of Culloden Chess Set

The chess design records the Battle of Culloden from 1746, which was the war of finality between the French sponsored Jacobites and the Hanoverian British Government in the 1745 Jacobite Rising. It brought the Jacobite cause to restore the House of Stuart to the throne of the Britain to a decisive defeat, with Bonnie Prince Charlie not to see the throne. This war was the last land battle to be fought on mainland Britain. The chess pieces are remarkable in detail - see the picture showing just the base one of the pieces to see the level of detail.

This conflict has continued intermittently for over a thousand years, but it is the period between 1095 and 1292 which has captured our imagination because of the exploits of the Crusader knights. Of course, they still hate each other. Perfect for a chess theme then, both historical and current.

A174 Richard the Lionheart Decorative Chess Set

The Richard the Lionheart chess set. The famous Couer de Lion Richard the Lionheart was known as such even before his accession, because of his miltary reputation. At only 16, Richard had his own command, putting down rebellions in Poitou against his father, Henry II. Richard was a central Christian commander during the Third Crusade, effectively leading the campaign after the departure of Philip Augustus, and scoring considerable victories against his Muslim counterpart, Saladin. This chess set depicts the characters, particularly Richard and is outstanding in the level of detail in the pieces.

As part of the original Anne Carlton range, this Egyptian style decorative theme chess set has undergone some minor modifications to the bases to improve quality and enhance the aesthetic appeal. The set depicts the ancient Egyptian Pharaohs and some of their sacred gods, the rook shows hieroglyphic carvings from extensive research and the Royal Cobra as the pawn. The Sphynx is the knight.
