Decision-making, memory load, and strategic reasoning in chess and abstract games

Pranav Deshpande

Cognitive Science Researcher

I start from first principles: a game is a bounded information system, a move is a hypothesis, and expertise is compressed prediction under time pressure. I connect chess calculation, Mastermind deduction, and mancala planning through working memory, chunking, feedback loops, and error correction. I write to make cognitive science usable for serious players, educators, and collectors who want to understand not only what wins, but why minds prefer certain lines.

PhD Cognitive Psychology, University of Manchester; MSc Behavioural Science, London School of Economics; Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
